GCTC organised a webinar on the 3rd of July 2020, where two brainstorming sessions: “Bioterrorism and High Consequence Biological Threats” under the themes: “Risk Governance, Early Detection, Counter Measures, and Best Practices”, covered discussions on important questions by a multitude of domain experts. Some of the broad questions and issues that were addressed include: The first session of the webinar saw the likes of notable names such as Professor Karl Roberts, Biosecurity Specialist at WHO, who spoke of the importance of ground level officers like the Police in tackling bioterrorist attacks. How the role of the law enforcement must be taken into account with regard to growing insecurities surrounding bioterrorist acts.
Whereas the highlight of the second session were another set of notable names such as Professor John Nomikos, who spoke of his experiences in European countries where there has been a steady increase in bioterrorist activities in the Balkan region which immediately became rather problematic. Therefore, he suggested a united front to tackle these issues considering the instability of the Balkan area.
